The Orange County Register published an article announcing that the Costa Mesa Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Friday night, January 23, 2009. The location is also being announced – northbound Santa Ana Avenue at 18th Street. It will begin at 6 p.m. and go until midnight.
Why not level the playing field? Of course, the best course of conduct is to not drink and drive. If you do find yourself in the checkpoint, obviously, comply with the officers in proceeding through the checkpoint. Under the guidelines in case law the police are required to follow, not necessarily every driver will be stopped and contacted. If you are singled out for “further investigation,” keep your rights in mind.
